Professor Beth Neil


Beth Neil is a professor of social work at the University of East Anglia. She has carried out a wide range of studies into adoption over the past 28 years, many with a focus on birth family contact.

Beth has been involved in policy and practice development, contributing to the recent Public Law Working Group report on adoption (contact recommendations), and working in partnership with Adoption England to promote culture change around adopted children’s family contact.

As well as her academic publications, Beth has worked with UEA colleagues and Research in Practice to develop a website hosting open access resources for practitioners and adoptive parents focused on post-adoption contact: Staying in touch: Contact after adoption.

In this webinar Beth explores the sibling relationships of adopted children and the joys, challenges and outcomes of staying in touch plans. She also covers what works in terms of planning and supporting contact between brothers and sisters, aiming for contact plans that are safe, meaningful and family friendly.
